Course Descriptions

State Course Descriptions:

Novice Coaching Course

A three (3) hour course offered to the first-second year coach and any parent inspiring to be coach. The course introduces to the candidates on how to manage a team and provide the appropriate training sessions. The emphasis is to provide an atmosphere that the players will enjoy and develop. There is a 45 minute classroom session, with also an hour training session with a youth team presented by the instructor. The course wraps up with a review and Q&A. No prerequisite for this course.

Youth Module Level 1 Course (required for U6/U8 travel coaches)

A six-hour course offered to any parent/novice coach introducing them to the characteristics of the U6/U8 player allowing the coaches to provide age appropriate training that would enhance player development. The emphasis here also is to create an atmosphere in which the players will enjoy and develop. The course entails classroom and field sessions, in which candidates are expected to participate. There are no prerequisites for this course.

Youth Module Level 2 Course (required for U9/U10 travel coaches)

A six-hour course offered to any parent/novice coach introducing them to the characteristics of the U10/U11 player allowing the coaches to provide age appropriate training that would enhance player development. The emphasis here also is to create an atmosphere in which the players will enjoy and develop. The course entails classroom and field sessions, in which candidates are expected to participate. There are no prerequisites for this course.

E License (required for U11/U12 Coaches)

An eighteen hour course offered to the candidates coaching an U12 team or higher. The curriculum focus on the development of the player, both individually and as a team player. The emphasis will be to build on the players’ technical development by applying tactical concepts that will address game situations. The course will help coaches expand their knowledge and understanding of technical and tactical demands of the game and provide the understanding of practical coaching methodology and the framework necessary to prepare players and a team for competition. The course entails classroom and field sessions, which candidates are expected to participate in. There is no prerequisite for this course. There is a minimum 20 candidates to conduct a course.

D License (required for U13 select/travel coaches)

A thirty-six hour course offered to the candidates coaching U14 and up select/travel teams. The focus is to provide a framework and understanding of practical coaching tools to improve players’ technique and to expand their tactical awareness within the team. The coach’s ability to create game like situations during the training sessions that challenge and develop the individual and team, are also a part of the course. The course entails classroom and field sessions, which candidates are expected to participate in. The “E” License is prerequisite for this course. A minimum of 25 candidates is required to conduct a course.
